Design the material around the product’s job
The right material is not simply the most premium option. It should support the product’s structure, weight, intended lifespan, care expectations and target customer.
Begin with performance and hand-feel, then compare available constructions and finishes. A coated textile, waxed canvas and leather can each deliver a sophisticated result, but they age and manufacture differently.
Consider the complete material system
Outer fabric is only one part of the product. Lining, foam, reinforcement, thread, zips, webbing and hardware influence both quality and cost. They should be evaluated as one system during sampling.
Ask for evidence behind claims
If a programme depends on recycled content, sourcing standards or another environmental attribute, decide which documentation is required before approving the material. Clear evidence expectations protect both the buyer and the manufacturer.
